INFORMATION ABOUT COOKIES

As a result of the entry into force of the modification to the “Information Society Services Act” (LSSICE) established by Royal Decree 13/2012, specific User consent must be obtained by all Websites using non-essential cookies before the User browses them.

 

WHAT ARE COOKIES?

 Cookies and other similar technologies, such as local shared objects, flash cookies or pixels, are tools employed by Web servers to store and retrieve information about their visitors, and to allow Websites to function properly.

The use of these devices allows the Web server to recall certain data concerning the User, their preferences for the display of pages from the server, name and password, products of the greatest interest to them, etc.

 

COOKIES AFFECTED BY THE REGULATIONS AND EXCLUDED COOKIES

According to the EU Directive, those cookies that require informed consent from Users are analytical and advertising/affiliation cookies, while an exclusion applies to technical cookies and those that are needed in order for the Website to function or for the services specifically requested by the User to be provided.

 

WHAT TYPES OF COOKIE EXIST?

As to the types of cookie, there are five major groups:

  • Analytical cookies: they gather information about the use made of the Website.
  • Social cookies: required for external social media platforms.
  • Affiliate cookies: used to monitor visits from other websites with which the Website itself establishes an affiliation agreement (affiliation companies).
  • Advertising and behavioural cookies: they gather information about Users’ personal preferences and choices (retargeting).
  • Technical and functional cookies: these are strictly necessary for use of the Website and to provide the contracted service.

COOKIES USED ON THIS WEBSITE

  • PHPSESSID: technical cookie which is strictly necessary and contains the session ID. It is deleted when the browser is closed.
  • _lang: technical cookie which is strictly necessary and contain the session language. It is deleted when the browser is closed.
  • ac_cookies: technical cookie which is strictly necessary and contains the value recording whether the setting of cookies has been accepted. It expires 1 year after the last update.
  • _ga: Google Analytics cookie which enables the unique visitor monitoring function. This cookie will be set the first time a User enters the Website using a browser. When the User enters the Website with the same browser, the cookie will consider this to be the same User. A User will be registered as a different User only after changing browser. It expires 2 years after the last update.
  • _gat: This cookie is associated with Google Analytics. It is used to limit the request speed – a limitation on the gathering of data on high-traffic sites. In expires after 10 minutes.
  • _gid: This cookie is associated with Google Analytics. It is used to distinguish Users. It expires after 24 hours.

HOW TO DELETE COOKIES FROM YOUR BROWSER

Chrome

  1. Select the Tools icon
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on Show Advanced Options.
  4. In the “Privacy” section, click on Content settings.
  5. Delete cookies: click on All cookies and Website data…
  6. Do not allow cookies to be stored.
  7. Click on Delete browsing cookies (empty Cache).
  8. Close and restart the browser.

Internet Explorer. Version 11

  1. Select Tools | Internet options.
  2. Click on the General tab.
  3. In the “Browsing history” section, click on Clear browsing history on exiting.
  4. Select Delete files.
  5. Select Delete cookies.
  6. Click on Delete.
  7. Click on OK.
  8. Close and restart the browser.

Firefox. Version 18

  1. Select Firefox | History | Clear recent history.
  2. Next to “Details”, click on the down arrow.
  3. Select the following checkboxes: Cookies, Cache, Active session launches
  4. Using the “Timespan to delete” in the drop-down menu, select All.
  5. Click on Delete now.
  6. Close and restart the browser.

You can accept or reject cookies individually in Firefox Preferences, in the History section available in Tools > Options > Privacy.

  1. Select the Safari icon/Edit|Restore Safari.
  2. Select the following checkboxes: Delete history, Clear all Website data
